RSS Feeds Display is a WordPress plugin that displays links to the latest articles from multiple RSS feeds in a chronological order (newest first). The RSS feeds are read from an OPML-file. It creates a dynamic blogroll.
Background information
Several months ago, I noted the lack of a simple blogroll plugin for WordPress that suited my needs. Long ago, blogrolling.com was an external party that allowed this. They went out of business in 2010.
In a discussion on mastodon with Frank a couple of days ago, I said I’d hope someone built something for WordPress now blogs and blogrolls seem to make a little comeback. Why not try it myself? I am no software engineer or web developer, but I have a bit of experience tinkering with code. Recent years mostly Python, in the past also Javascript, but never any PHP. Let ChatGPT write some code and see where it gets you! It took only 3 hours to get something working.
Considerations for version 0.1
- Code is pretty simple
- Code hasn’t been evaluated by anyone
- Styling and options are done in the php itself; should be a settings menu in a next version
- Opml-file is stored in the same directory, not at any server.
